Celebrate the Heart of Home: A Mother’s Day
Reflection (Plus a Treat from Roady Retail!)
As spring blossoms around us, so too does the anticipation for a day dedicated to the incredible
women who nurture, support, and love us unconditionally: Mother’s Day. At Roady Retail, we
believe in celebrating all the amazing moms out there, and we’ve got just the thing to help you
show your appreciation. But before we dive into our special Mother’s Day sale, let’s take a
moment to appreciate the rich history behind this cherished holiday.
While the idea of honoring mothers dates back to ancient civilizations with festivals dedicated to
mother goddesses, the modern iteration of Mother’s Day in the United States is largely credited
to two remarkable women: Ann Reeves Jarvis and her daughter, Anna Jarvis.
Ann Reeves Jarvis, during the Civil War era, organized “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to help
families and promote health and sanitation. After her passing in 1905, her daughter, Anna,
dedicated herself to establishing a formal day to honor the sacrifices mothers made for their
children. Through tireless campaigning, her efforts paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow
Wilson officially proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Initially envisioned as a day of quiet reflection and wearing a white carnation to honor living
mothers, the holiday has evolved into a broader celebration of motherhood in all its forms. We
now honor grandmothers, stepmothers, aunts, and any woman who has played a nurturing role
in our lives.
Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day? It’s a chance to acknowledge the immeasurable
contributions mothers make to our families and society. They are often the pillars of strength,
offering guidance, comfort, and unwavering love. It’s an opportunity to say thank you for the
sleepless nights, the endless support, the invaluable lessons, and the countless acts of
kindness, both big and small.
At Roady Retail, we understand the importance of showing your appreciation. So give Mom the best without breaking the bank at our Mother’s Day event.
